Anas to monitor the stability of Italian roads and highways with Rheticus Safeway
Anas SpA is the Italian society that manage the complete cycle of design, maintenance and control of the highways and roads. The company manages more than 32.000 Km of roads and highways, 2.100 Tunnels (the largest number in Europe), 15.800 Bridges. Keeping the stability of road infrastructures under control is a necessary and fundamental activity.
The continuous transformations of the environment and the geomorphological context in the ground surface and the increasing anthropic pressure make it essential to implement effective land control and monitoring policies.
Anas based its strategy on making the most of existing infrastructure assets. For this reason, maintenance results as one of its most important activities. Anas’s road management is oriented to program interventions according to performance targets and risk scenarios standardized on the network. Through planned road maintenance, Anas intends to overcome the traditional activity based on emergency intervention thanks to an overall reading of the characteristics of the infrastructure and the events that occur on it or around it.
To implement an effective investment planning and intervention programming process, Anas activated Rheticus® Safeway, which complements the surveillance activities already carried out continuously by Anas. Rheticus Safeway offers a synoptic view of the network’s stress level.
Developed with satellite technology, the service regularly provides to Anas information on the infrastructures with a high level of damage. It provides periodic reporting which highlights those on which further inspection has to be addressed to check its integrity.
The predictive maintenance of the infrastructure offered by Rheticus® Safeway entails Anas with concrete benefits:
- For road users, in terms of more excellent continuity and quality of services;
- For the community, in terms of containment of the overall costs of intervention;
- For the country, in terms of enhancement and redevelopment of an impressive road heritage.
